The cold season is slowly, but firmly making room in our lives once again. It does not matter that I am writing this from a very hot and humid island in the Mediterranean Sea, because in a few days, I will be back home and the chilly days are already there. Probably, for the first time in my life, I am starting to understand how important it is for me to start really taking care of myself. Therefore, to make it easier, I decided to write this article about autumn skin care to motivate myself and to inspire you to create a beauty routine!
Every summer I keep saying that I will at least put some sun screen on, but I almost never do it. Probably it is because my skin simply glows in the hot season. However, once the cold weather kicks in, my skin becomes a disaster. Hopefully, this won’t be happening anymore because I PROMISE that now I am starting to take more care of it! So here is what a skincare routine should look like.
The first thing to start with is, of course, removing your makeup. Most women wear makeup on a daily basis so before your start doing anything else to your face, remove your makeup! And even in the evenings when you are not doing the entire beauty routine, remove your makeup! Unfortunately, most women skip this highly important step and although we do not see the immediate effects, trust me, it destroys your skin! In case you want to go for an all natural makeup remover, try oils. And be extremely careful about how you remove your eye makeup!
The second step is exfoliating. You need to remove all those bad dead cells from your face so you can start fresh the new season! While you are at it – exfoliate your lips too! Once the cold hits, they will become all dry and cracked. So you have to include them as well in your beauty routine!
There are tons of stuff on the market for this, but if you are more into DIY or want to know exactly what you put on your face, you can check out these do it yourself masks for a pampering evening at home. Please note that you should exfoliate your face at least once or twice per week in the cold season.
Next step is to use a toner and to take care of any affected areas of your face that could have issues. Of course, you can buy your toner or again, do it yourself with some very basic recipes, like apple cider vinegar, water and orange oil. And then according to your skin’s problems, you have to choose what product to use to correct it. You might have wrinkles, acne or black spots. Personally, I have been struggling my entire life to get rid of black spots, especially in the past years, but I was lucky enough not to suffer of acne.
I always bought products for these problems, however, from now on, I am going to try out these for my black spots.
The last thing you need to do is to apply a layer of highly moisturizing cream all over your face so that your skin will be hydrated and ready to confront the cold and the wind! Oh, and did you know that when you apply your cream, you should not spread it, but tap it on your skin? Apparently when we spread it, we tug and pull the skin so it affects its elasticity. Also when you tap it, the cream gets deeper than when you spread it. So tap it on!
Do not forget that you should, basically, do step 1 and 2 to your lips as well, and when you apply the cream in the end, use a good moisturizing lip balm. The second and the last steps work perfectly for your body as well so you can always count on them! Just make sure you do not exfoliate your body too often.
Now that I shared with you the steps of a beauty routine, apart from me, who else is going to start doing it?
