We’re at a fraction of this long, hot summer, which means we can definitely attack the hottest topics on the line: not just what you should wear, but what to choose to fit your silhouette. We must add that SS14 is a time to thrive for fashion extroverts, for the wild spirits that love being in the spotlight more than anything else! This mini-series will cover each body type and give valuable suggestions on how to wear this summer’s trends in style because we all want to be fashionistas, not fashion victims.
Triangle shape (pear shape)
With a petite torso and a curvaceous lower part of the body, all tied together by a supple waist, all you need to do is to add structure to your upper part, in order to create balance. You should go for simple, slim fit pants and larger than life tops.
Let’s cover the lower part first. Capris are really in – and if you’re tall and slim, you can go for loose, baggy Capris. If you’re not, the only case in which should get near them is if your fashion goal is to be a female version of Eminem.
For breezy summer nights, you can wholeheartedly go for slightly narrowed pants with a high waist (no prints), but again, only if you’re thin and preferably tall.
If you are not tall and skinny go for some boot cut pants or jeans.
Now let’s go over the larger than life tops we were talking about. This season, pick a holographic fabric for an extravagant, futuristic twist to an otherwise ordinary ensemble. However, don’t overdo it- a holographic tube dress worn with your body type will make you look like the human embodiment of a CD. Just don’t. The safer option is to pick an iridescent clutch, a tiny sci-fi piece instead of a dress.
Then we have white blouses, in shapes and sizes to fit beautifully any body shape- even yours. Since we have to balance the upper and lower parts of your body, you should opt for a boho white blouse, with foamy lace or embroideries on the shoulders and bosom. If you’re daring, instead of delicate embroideries, you could go for bold embellishments that will make you steal the show, everywhere you go.
Is this to over the top for your taste? Simple floral prints are the way to go, and they look best in shades of orange. But you might not be convinced that orange is the new black, and in that case, other chromatic superstars are mint green, lemon sherbet, baby blue and candy floss pink. Take in all that vicious candy in a trip to Wonderland, without adding extra inches to your beach body.
Do you already know how to mix and match items to look fabulous? Then you should know that contrasts are still highly fashionable, and we don’t just mean the conventional, yet ubiquitous black & white. Fabric contrasts are everything a fearless shopper needs to know.
Let’s talk dresses. The little black dress is overthrown this summer by the little lace dress (LLD). But instead of the princely frock, we suggest a dress that resembles a nightgown for a relaxed look. Wear that with out-of-bed hair and black eyeliner and you’ll be fabulous with minimal effort.
It gets better for you fashion extroverts! Even though you should avoid pleats, lovely as they are, off the shoulder dresses are here to stay and so are midi and maxi boho skirts. We add to that zippers, fishnets and leather for those whose hearts beat to the rhythm of rock’n’roll. An A-line midi skirt looks good on any body shape and if it’s in leather, with a gossamer top, you have contrast and you have structure.
As for shoes, the code is nude. Nude stilettos or ballet flats, whichever suits you best are the season’s must haves. And we dare say they are here to stay a little longer than this summer, so you might consider investing in a pair of beautiful and high quality shoes.
